GreenLike - Competition for enviromental concious high school students at the University of Pannonia

The two rounded GreenLike competition was achieved within the framework of the project 2019-1.3.1-KK-2019-00015 " Establishment of a circular economy-based sustainability competence center ath the University of Pannonia", with the support of the National Research, Developement and Innovation Office.

During the online pre-selection on 20 October 2020, the teams were given circular economy related tasks, which included crossword puzzle, multiple-choice test and open questions. The top 10 teams advanced to the final, that was held 6 November 2020. The final was also held online due to the Covid pandemic.

In the final, competitors had to solve interactive and creative tasks. They had to present their team and their relation with circular economy in a short clip. After introducing themself, they had to create a coherent speech based on photos about circular economy. Finally, the finalists presented their idea about the city of the future based on circular economy.

The expert members of the jury were Dr. Pál Zoltán Lukács, Director of the Circular Economic Sustainaility Competence Center at the University of Pannonia, Dr. Balázs Temesvári, CEO of VKSZ Veszprémi Közüzemi Szolgáltató Zrt. and Friderika Mike, Director of developement at VEB2023 EKF - Veszprém - Balaton 2023 Zrt.

For this competition, a total of 34 teams registered, which means that more then 120 students took part in the online pre-selection. Teams were registered from Eger, Budapest, Szekszárd, Székesfehérvár and from Veszprém county - Pápa, Várpalota, Veszprém. During the finals, 10 teams were competing with each other, so that means that approximately 40 students tested their knowledge.

The final result of the Competition:

  1. The "Andrássy Greens" team from the Andrássy György Catholic School of Economics, Gymnasium and College in Eger. Members: Blanka Buzás, Janka Géczi, Janka Híves, Virág Várszegi
  2. The "Multicellular eukaryotes" team from the Petőfi Sándor High School in Pápa: Members: Boglárka Barta, Hanna Csicsai, Fanni Horváth, Ákos Nagy
  3. The following teams both were placed 3rd in a tie
  • The "Winning pair on the square" team from the Petőfi Sándor High School in Pápa: Members: Csenge Bognár, Sára Hunyadi-Nagy, Anna Marton, Violetta Szalay
  • The "Ocean" team from Városmajori Gymnasium from Budapest: Members: Dániel Bacsó, Sándor Bodó, Erik Hajdu, Marcell Jámbor

"It is crucial for the older generation what young people nowadays think and know about climate change, sustainability and the circular economy and what they are willing to do for a better future. It is very important, that young people not only look  but also see the world around them and also do something for it. I believe that these 120 students who are participating in this competition will not only know more about the circular economy, but will also become committed and active in this topic."- stated Dr. Beáta Fehérvölgyi, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, the main patron of this competition.
